Van Fischer [director]
Van Fischer began his film career in 1996
finding quick success as an actor in a number of film and
television roles. Attending the Sundance Film Festival
for the first time in 1998, he realized that it was directing
that would fulfill his dream of creating a powerful, character
driven feature film.
Van’s directorial debut, “Blink
of an Eye” tells a compelling story of a young
man’s struggle between right and wrong as he attempts to
re-enter society. Shot in nineteen days with a budget of
just $200,000, “Blink of an Eye” has screened at
over a dozen festivals premiering in New York, and screening in
competition at Slamdance 2000. It has won awards for Best
Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best New Actress, and
a Grand Jury Award for Excellence in Filmmaking.
“Blink of an Eye” was purchased by Artisan
Entertainment and after a short successful theatrical run in
New York, was given a wide release on video.
Van has just completed his 2nd feature
film, “Neo Ned” which won the Slamdance 2000
Screenplay Competition. Starring Jeremy Renner, Gabrielle
Union, Sally Kirkland, Cary Elwes and Ethan Suplee, “Neo
Ned” tells the story of a Neo Nazi skinhead who falls for
a black girl who pretends Adolf Hitler was reincarnated in her.
“Neo Ned” will premiere in competition at the
Tribeca Film Festival in April 2005 . Its controversial
subject matter has already generated numerous heated internet
discussions on this most unusual concept.
Van is currently writing a
Murder/Conspiracy screenplay and will be ready for production
in October 2005.
